Green Dog Program

What is a Green Dog?

A Green Dog is one that has a good foundation of skills, training, socialization, & medical clearances to become a Service Dog but needs the final disability specific training. So the dog is a little green (inexperienced) and still fresh in it's training.

This program is a good mid-priced option that coupled with the Owner Trained Program gives allows a Client the ability to get a great dog at an affordable cost and be able to learn how to finish the training specific to your needs.

Primary Program Benefits

Shorter Timeframe To Get Working

This program gives you a dog that is healthy, has a good basis of socialization, and basic training. This drastically shortens the timeframe of training to get to the final level required to become a service dog.

Depending on the initial training of the Green Dog, this can shorten the final training time to approximately 350-400 hours verses 1,800 to 2,000 hours if you started with a young puppy.

Find a Dog to Fit your Budget..

Depending on the training level of the Green Dog, the costs vary with their level of training. So if your budget is a little tight, then a dog that has less training and more inexperience will be more your speed and a lower costs than a dog that has gone through advanced training.

Costs for a Green dog can vary between $10,000 to $15,000+ depending on various factors.

Make sure the dog is healthy...

Prior to placement, all Service Dogs and Green Dogs go through extensive medical testing in addition to our careful breeding practices to ensure that they are healthy as possible. This testing by a licensed veterinarian looks at a variety of factors including:

*Structural Health,
*Kinesthetic Movement,
*Vision & Hearing Checks,
*Extensive blood tests,

* and many other factors...

The Green Dog Process

1. Submit An Application

To begin this process we need you to submit an application for a dog. This application process will give us the information to best match a potential dog to your lifestyle, personality, and disability needs.

You can request a Green Dog Toolkit below with all the materials to get started.

2. Schedule a Home Interview

This is a 90 minute session where one of our Service Dog specialists will travel to you with a potential Green Dog that matches the information in your application. During this time we assess the potential match; safety issues around the home; and your particular need for a service dog. We will walk you through the entire process so that you are comfortable with the program.

3. Purchase the Pup & The Program

Once we accept you into the program and match you with a pup, you would complete the purchase of both the pup and the annual subscription to our Owner Trained Program.

At this point you would start the bonding process & final disability specific training. This process can take 120-500 hours depending on a variety of factors..

4. The Certification Process...

When your service dog and yourself are ready for final Certification, call our staff to arrange a private testing session or join one of our group certification days.

This will be where you would take both a written exam, as well as the Public Access Test required of all Service Dog Teams covered under the ADA.
